I-Lap R/C Timing System

FAQ

Q. Will the system work outdoors in bright sunlight?
A. Yes, the high power modulated infrared signal eliminates any interference. Check out the Video page.

Q. What if I don't have an open slot in the receiver for the transponder?
A. The transponder can plug into a "Y" servo harness available at any hobby shop to get its power. It can also be connected to a small, lightweight battery for cars like the Mini-T with non-standard electronics
The battery we recommend is available from cheapbatterypacks.com. click HERE for a direct link.
All transponders shipped since 4/16/07 have voltage regulators on board and will run fine with 5 cell nitro vehicles.

Q. My car does not have a clear windsheild?
A. The transponder can be mounted to the body and a small 1/2 x 1 inch hole put in the body for the infrared parts. Some guys even put them on the outside of the body. For X-Mods with solid windows, a hole can be put in the roof, or some have cut out the windsheild. A strip of lexan can cover the opening if desired.

Q. How good of a computer do I need?
A. That depends on the software package you choose. Check the requirements on their site for this info.

Q. My computer does not have a 9-pin Serial port, how do I hook it up?
A. A USB to Serial adapter is needed. Some have a problem with the 2 stop bits of the AMB20 protocol. Compatible adapters can be ordered with your system, or I can provide a link to a known good one.
Don't confuse the 15 pin blue video port for a 9 pin serial port.

Q. Why doesn't it just come ready for USB?
A. We could have made it with a direct USB connection. Unfortunately, USB has a very limited cable length, whereas serial cables are good for over a hundred feet. By using a serial cable with the USB adapter, the USB connection can be used without the cable length limitations. Most setups will not have the computer less than ten feet from the start/finish line.

Q. I have a question that is not answered here.
A. Send your question to HERE. This page will be updated as needed.
